On Sunday 26th March we held my daughter’s first birthday party. After scouring the web and pinning posts, it was finally time for us to try and make a Pinterest perfect birthday party.
Before we get into the main story, I want to let you in on a secret. I’m not a creative person, our home is not decorated and this past Christmas we only put up a Christmas tree, no other decorations entered our home. Decorating is low on my skills set. However, you only turn one once and I wanted to have a truly elegant and respectable party for our daughter.
By Invite only
It was decided (by me) to only invite our immediate family and one couple from our friends. There were two reasons for this:
1. Our apartment is not big, it only holds a couple of people comfortably so it would be a squeeze.
2. I’m not really into big parties, our daughter was turning 1, not 21. We wanted a small intimate affair.
As I mentioned above, I spent an awful amount of time on Pinterest. The first thing I chose was her cake. I really enjoy simple things and knew I didn’t want anything too flashy. The cake turned out exactly as I wanted, and I hope you will agree it’s beautiful.
Finding the decor was tougher, as we picked the cake first, I knew our theme needed pink and gold decorations. The problem I find living in Ireland is, a lot of products and items you search for just cannot be found. Everything needs to be bought online. The shops here in my town had cartoon theme decor or bright pink decor but I needed the subtle (blush) pink and gold. There was plenty of silver items but rarely any gold. Eventually, I just bought some online and I added some more pops of colour with the cups, plates and hanging decor. I really think this worked well. Let me know what you think.
Another aspect of Pinterest parties is pretty looking finger food. Not to be outdone I prepared fruit skewers and presented the cupcakes on this lovely stand. We also served sandwiches, which I placed on gold plates. My favourite was the scones, this tiered basket worked really well. The top holds, butter, jam and cream while the remaining tiers housed the fruit scones.
I had great plans to make a tassel surround for the high chair but with most my plans I got sidetracked and it never happened. However, I don’t think it mattered too much as you can see from this picture.
Overall I am superable happy with the way everything went. As funny as this may sound, I am really proud of myself for putting together this party for our daughter. Now I’ve set the bar so high, I feel I may have issued myself a challenge for future birthdays.
